Expression of Interest

When it came to choosing an area to base my coursework on, I felt that a magazine was the best option for a multitude of reasons. I would say that I have a creative mindset when it comes to creating something that looks visually appealing. In accordance with the brief, it states that the target audience for the magazine is for 16–25-year-olds, and as someone within that age range, I felt as if when choosing to create a magazine, I could delve deep into topics that I think my age range would usually associate themselves with. The brief also states how it is a requirement to feature two or more different social groups within the magazine. I believed that this would be a perfect opportunity to display the different beliefs that I had through my magazine. The idea of creating a magazine really grabbed my attention because my mum reads magazines frequently, so I am used to seeing the stylistic aspects to them which I can draw inspiration from.

The idea of doing a lifestyle magazine seemed quite appealing to me as it opens the door to a wide range of different topics that can be mentioned. Magazines such as this allow freedom to write about and feature different aspects of life that audiences may relate to.

I think focusing on important topics is vital in creating a magazine that represents two different social groups, hence why I am going to do both a LGBTQ+ and feminist edition magazine. Each magazine that I create will be stylistically similar but will have their own unique character that will be able to make them look different. Topics such as the feminist movement and fighting for LGBTQ+ rights is interesting to me as it has been happening over a long period of time and is still happening to this day. I especially associate with the LGBTQ+ community so I believe that creating a magazine from something that I relate to will prove to be somewhat successful.
